Paolo Garagnani is a researcher at the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences (BiGeA), University of Bologna, specializing in genomics and epigenomics applied to the biology of aging. He is recognized internationally for identifying the strongest epigenetic markers of chronological age, specifically age-related modifications in the ELOVL2 and FHL2 genes. His research encompasses epigenetic clocks based on DNA methylation for risk stratification, genetics of longevity in centenarians and their offspring, and gut microbiota in aging populations. He has collaborated extensively with Professor Claudio Franceschi and is supported by the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
